Rating: - A big disappointment
When I became a vegetarian 13 years ago in a meat-eating family, this magazine was a huge help to me in doing so and not sacrificing nutrition. But things at VT have really changed. Their "low fat & fast" column, which used to the have only recipes busy people could make except for special occasions, is now anything but at 60%-90% of a woman's recommended maximum fat intake for a single entree, and the quality of their recipe offerings in general in nutrition have deteriorated considerably. I know that 2/3 of their subscribers are not vegetarians, but many are looking to a magazine like VT for ways to eat healthier. If this is you, this is not the magazine for you. In the last several issues, main entree meals have contained 45-55g of fat for roughly 1-cup servings of a dish. In comparison, the Burger King Whopper has 45g of fat, with cheese it's 53g. Many fats can be good for you, but not when a single entree equates to fast food. If you're looking for ways to incorporate healthy and/or vegetarian meals into your lifestyle, or for the vegetarian in your family, I would highly recommend Veggie Life (available at Amazon), Cooking Light (also available at Amazon) or Vegetarian Journal (hopefully soon available at Amazon), which have much healthier, veggie-friendly and tasty recipes for you or the vegetarians in your life.

Being vegetarian to me is all about getting myself slim and healthy. With its high fat content recommendations, VT is not a help in this pursuit.
Rating: - Magazine serves up more than just recipes
I have enjoyed my subscription to Vegetarian Times. While I am not a vegetarian I do find many of the recipes in this magazine to be tasty. The photographs are elegant and the range of recipes suits meat eaters as well as Lacto-Ovo Vegetarians. I haven't seen as many recipes that would appeal for Vegans. In addition to a wide range of monthly recipes this magazine also includes articles on the benefits of being a vegetarian, health articles in general and more. Amazon offers a very competitive price for their magazines, much less expensive than the publisher offers through the magazine itself. I would recommend this magazine for those that are Lacto-Ovo vegetarians and meat eaters the like.
