This magazine takes a new approach to light cooking. Not only is every issue packed full of recipes that list calories and fat content, but there are lifestyle and exercise tips too. Cooking Light is about a whole lifestyle and the magazine aims to bring you closer to that. One recipe I tried was chicken stuffed with brie and caramelized onions! It was wonderful and my husband had no idea it was LIGHT! I recommend it for everyday cooking, all recipes are easy to do and haven't been time consuming with easy to find ingredients, yet they still have a little flair.

I'm very glad I've subscribed to this magazine, but I recently let my subscription lapse, and I'm totally regretting it!I recently lost weight, and these recipes gave me great options while I was losing weight, and there's great stuff in here to help me keep it off. My husband is not into healthy cooking/eating to the degree I am (he's still a meat-and-potatoes kind of guy), but he loves most of the meals I've cooked from here. Each month, there is a featured item, such as crawfish, mushrooms or an ethnic cuisine. This feature not only includes information regarding the particular item, but numerous recipes as well. But the feature is only a small part of the recipes included. Each month also has a section where they've taken a full fat item (often a dessert) and toned it down, as well as a quick cooking section. I've really started venturing out in what I cook as a result of this magazine. I never thought I could find a great recipe for turkey burgers, but my husband and I loved the cilantro turkey burgers with chiplotle ketchup. I use the magazine about 3 times a week, and I clip my favorites. Then I regret getting rid of the magazine out of fear of missing something! There have been a few misses on the recipes. Namely, the chocolate tofu mousse- maybe I did something wrong, but it was just NOT for me. But evidently, I'm the only one who doesn't like this recipe, because it was recently featured as one of their best recipes from 2001. The magazine is not all recipes. There's lots of health tips and articles in the front, and the recipe section if full of good information about ethnic cooking, theme cooking, etc.
Rating: - A holistic approach
What I like best about Cooking Light is that, besides providing healthful recipes that taste good, the magazine takes a holistic approach and provides exercise tips, stress-management advice, and other articles that round out not just a good meal, but a sensible lifestyle. I've had better success with some recipes than others, but then I could say that about most of the cookbooks I own, too. The extra tips in Cooking Light make it worth getting even if you already subscribe to another food or cooking magazine (I get Food & Wine as well).
