I wasn't even driving yet in 1984 and I knew that Motor Trend's pick of the Renault Alliance for 1984 Car of the Year was a joke.I've had trouble with most of them since then, too. They seem to eek out the lowest acceleration numbers in the industry, which is great when you're reading about a car you like, but one has to wonder what kind of corrections they're performing on the numbers, because in practice few others can achieve those numbers (certainly not consistently, anyway). I bought one each of the five mainstream magazines this month -- November 2002 issues of Automobile, Autoweek, Car and Driver, Motor Trend, and Road & Track -- partly to compare and update my perceptions of each (but mostly to read everything I can about the Infiniti G35 Coupe that I'm getting next month :-) ) and in my opinion, Motor Trend is the worst of the bunch. Sorry, MT.
Rating: - Not a big fan of this magazine............
Ok, some of the articles are OK, but overall this magazine is a joke compared to Road and Track and Car and Driver. First of their ratings for SUV and Car of the year have pretty much no merit. They usually vote for the a NEWEST Car that is the most unique. Which is not what car and SUV of the year should be. For example, they gave the Lexus 300 SUV, SUV of the year, when in fact it has no qualities of an SUV except for being higher of the road. This by no means should be considered a SUV of the year. And this year they did the Ford Thunderbird as Car of the year, which is a joke. The car may be great for Older Model Enthusiasts, but should NOT be car of the year. Truley, get either Car and Driver or Road and Track, you will not be dissapointed.
Rating: - The best automotive magazine sold today.
The format of this magazine is superb and makes navigating easy. Motor Trend's Car of the Year, SUV of the year, and Truck of the year inform buyers of teriffic cars. Also, their comparisons are laid out in the best way possible.
